Robotics Forward Deployed Engineer
Destro
About Destro AI
Destro AI is building the intelligence layer for robotics — the system that tells robots and humans what to do across complex real-world operations.
Founded by former leaders from HAI Robotics, Dexterity, and Matic, Destro is built on a simple thesis: robotics has solved movement, but not decision-making.
At the core of Destro is MothershipOS — a centralized brain that coordinates robots, humans, and workflows in real time. Unlike traditional systems that rely on local intelligence on each robot, Destro brings global intelligence across the entire operation.
We recently closed our Seed round at one of the highest valuations for a robotics company at this stage, and are already working with large enterprise operators to deploy real systems in production environments.
Role Overview
This is one of the most important early engineering roles at Destro.
You will take systems from pilot to production inside live customer environments — making them work under real-world conditions.
This is not a traditional software role. You will be in the field, working directly with customers, debugging issues in real time, and shaping how the product behaves in production.
We are looking for builders who want to operate at the intersection of robotics, software, and real-world execution — not just write code, but make systems actually work.
This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable:
-
debugging software,
-
deploying systems in real-world environments,
-
working directly with customers,
-
and shaping product behavior through hands-on execution.
What You’ll Do
Customer Deployment & Field Execution
-
Travel extensively to customer sites
-
Deploy Destro’s software systems on-site and configure live operational environments
-
Work directly with customer operations, engineering, and IT teams during pilots and production rollouts
-
Serve as the primary technical point of contact during deployment, launch, and stabilization phases
-
Troubleshoot and resolve issues in real time under production conditions
System Integration & Testing
-
Integrate Destro’s platform with customer systems, APIs, and software environments
-
Deploy and configure software across customer servers, edge systems, and infrastructure
-
Execute end-to-end system testing in live environments
-
Debug issues across software, APIs, networking, and system interactions
-
Collaborate with internal engineering teams to diagnose and resolve issues quickly
Workflow Development & Product Iteration
-
Build, test, and adapt workflows based on real-world operational requirements
-
Translate customer processes into deployable system behavior
-
Modify and extend core product functionality to meet deployment needs
-
Contribute directly to improving the product based on field learnings
-
Act as a bridge between deployment realities and core engineering decisions
Production Readiness
-
Drive systems from pilot to production by achieving defined KPIs (throughput, uptime, reliability, accuracy)
-
Identify bottlenecks and implement fixes rapidly in high-pressure environments
-
Own system performance, stability, and reliability in the field
Who You Are
-
2–6 years of experience in robotics, distributed systems, systems engineering, or technical deployment roles
-
Strong software engineering foundation with the ability to debug and solve real-world problems quickly
-
Comfortable working on-site in operational environments
-
Able to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-moving startup environments
-
Strong communicator who can work directly with customer technical and operations teams
-
High ownership mindset with strong bias for execution
Technical Skills
-
Experience with APIs, system integrations, and distributed software systems
-
Experience with Python, C++, or similar programming languages
-
Understanding of Linux/server environments, networking, cloud systems, and edge deployments
-
Experience deploying or supporting software in production/customer environments is strongly preferred
