We’re looking for an experienced networking engineer who enjoys defining and implementing best practices for secure, scalable deployments of virtual network technology. As our Network Integration Engineer, you will help deliver ZeroTier's innovative networking capabilities to our community and customers by building and documenting reference architectures, cloud integrations, and automation tools.

To succeed in this role, you should enjoy investigating and improving on the current state of software-defined networks, be curious about how specific customers and industry segments use secure networking tools and be able and willing to explain your findings through written and interactive channels. We're a small, pragmatic team, and we make it a point of pride to find smart, cost and resource-efficient ways to deliver our products and services, even in enterprise and cloud environments where massive infrastructure spending can be all too common.

Our ideal candidate should be equally comfortable as a builder and educator. You'll need strong writing skills along with the ability to ask and answer deep questions about our product and where it fits in the larger ecosystem.

While this position is open to anyone in the continental United States, we have a preference for candidates located near one of our existing team "pods": Irvine, CA; Cincinnati, OH; and Portland, OR. ZeroTier has a fully-remote work culture and practice, but we maintain physical office space in each of those locations to provide flexible in-person collaboration, social, and meeting space.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serve as a subject matter expert on how ZeroTier deployments should be designed and delivered within customer environments, including cloud, IoT/edge, and traditional on-premises models
Develop and support reference designs, demos and tutorials, and key ecosystem integrations to help customers understand and realize ZeroTier's unique value to their business
Directly support our go-to-market (GTM) team in pre-sales meetings and ongoing customer engagements by meeting (virtually) with customers and partners
Work alongside our product marketing and systems engineers to define, scope, and evaluate key product features and capabilities needed to support real-world customer deployments

EXPERIENCE:

Strong understanding of core TCP/IP networking fundamentals, including addressing, routing, firewalls, and wireless and mobile networking technologies
A proven ability to document and explain technical concepts such as virtual networks, VM and container networking, and hybrid cloud environments to audiences of varied technical backgrounds
Familiarity with both UNIX and Windows operating environments
Ability to work effectively with a distributed team, including familiarity with common workflow and communications tools used for remote work (GitHub, GSuite, Zoom, CRM tools, etc.)
Basic scripting and automation of local and remote services and APIs using tools such as Terraform and the AWS CDK
Proficiency in a cross-platform language like Python or JavaScript

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent preferred
History of independent investigation, documentation, and explanation of modern online services and architecture
Certification and/or training in technical documentation, communications, and support
Strong knowledge of modern networking technologies, including VPNs, SD-WAN, encryption, and packet filtering

Extra consideration will be given to candidates with proven success working in a SaaS networking/NaaS and/or security product sales environment.

This role does not require extensive travel for customer meetings and consultation, but some flexibility to work outside local business hours will be expected. We don't need 24x7 availability, but the ability to join a weekday meeting at (say) 6 a.m. or 7 p.m. can provide critical support for our sales team, especially when engaging with customers outside mainland US time zones.
